A Dream Shared: My Mum and I in the Spotlight

It still feels surreal to see Mum and me featured in our local newspaper — not just as a mother and daughter duo, but as published authors! Writing has always been close to my heart, but to share this journey with Mum has made it truly unforgettable.

Throughout my life, stories have been my safe space — a way to explore, escape, and express. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, it shook my world. But in the midst of treatment and tough days, I turned to writing. It gave me purpose and joy. I began creating rhyming counting books for children, and before I knew it, I had written five of them! Counting Beagles is one of my favourites — a playful, rhyming book full of happy beagles and the fun things they do. It’s aimed at little ones from 0 to 10 and was written to bring a smile to both children and adults.

Mum, Angela, has always been my biggest supporter. She's spent her life caring for others and has had a lifelong love of storytelling. Watching me write and create reignited her own passion. She finally took the leap and brought her first book to life: Angela’s Little Red Racing Car. It's a heartwarming story about a forgotten old car who wonders if he's headed for the scrapyard — until a surprise change everything. It’s a tale of hope, second chances, and finding your worth, no matter how dusty life gets.

This shared achievement means the world to us. We encouraged each other, cheered each other on, and kept writing even on the hard days. Seeing our books in print is proof that it’s never too late to follow your dream — and sometimes, the journey is even sweeter when you take it with someone you love.
