I have recently visited several local schools, nurseries and pre-schools in order to share my book- 'Counting Springer Spaniels.' I have more visits booked in after half term. I shared photographs of my dog, a Springer Spaniel, Bella, who is the main character in my first book. The children liked Bella and were excited to see my book about her. I asked if the children were good at counting and they were! On each page we counted the dogs and listened to the rhymes of the funny things that Springer Spaniels do. The children recognised that on the first page there were no dogs and that this meant zero. They then enjoyed counting the dogs on the other pages. They thought it was funny that Bella stole my sock! The children shared their own stories about their own pets. Some children asked me questions about Bella and about being an author. One eloquent child at Sledmere Primary asked: "What is it like to be an author?" Children and staff shared their feedback about the book and the visit. I've really enjoyed the visits so far and I'm looking forward to doing more. I have attached some of the feedback from Queen Victoria Primary, Sledmere Primary and St. Mary's Pre-school.
